拒否柴 ("kyohi shiba" — Refusal Shiba) is the term Japanese Shiba owners coined for a Shiba planting itself before or during a walk and refusing to move: it sits down, leans its full body weight against the taut leash, and will not budge no matter how hard anyone pulls.
The word crystallized in online owner communities around the mid-2010s and is clearly in Japanese pet-media circulation by 2018. It is defined on the pixiv encyclopedia under the parent concept 拒否犬 ("refusal dog"). Shibas dominate the genre because the breed is famously stubborn, independent, and self-assertive.
There is no single canonical 拒否柴 — no owner, no patient-zero photo. It is vernacular born of thousands of owners' daily experience, replenished every day: roughly 56% of surveyed Shiba owners reported walk refusal in a 2026 owner survey.
Because no single dog owns this meme, all art here is original fan illustration of the behavior. Refusal is willful, never fearful — the dog is fine; the dog has decided.
